Please read the important information below to learn more about our adoption process.
Application approval is required prior to meeting any dog/s.
We will not allow dogs to leave at the first meet & greet...
unless you have arranged to pick up your rescue dog directly from a transport.
We have found this to be the most successful way for the dogs to transition to a new home. Some may even require several visits depending on their background or personality.
Adoption Fee: $500
Our adoption fee covers Spay/Neuter services at our Vet in Middlebury, VT., current age-appropriate Vaccinations, and De-worming.
The adoption fee helps cover a small portion of the transport cost (usually from South Carolina). Otherwise, as a 501c3 non-profit, every dollar goes back into the rescue to feed and provide care, including Vet care if needed, for our rescues, keep us afloat and able to save more dogs.
A spay/neuter agreement is a required...
as part of the application and is absolutely necessary to adopt one of our rescues. If you cannot have it done through our Vet service, then we do require you send us proof from you Vet that the surgery was completed and upon receiving proof we do send you a small reimbursement.
We do not support adopting a dog for any of the following reasons:
All of our dogs have been rescued from high-kill shelters in southern states, most coming from abusive, neglectful backgrounds or found as strays and ultimately ending up on the euthanasia list. While being held at these overcrowded chaotic shelters they are kept in cages, with very little freedom or human interaction. That is why we do not crate/kennel/cage our rescues unless it is absolutely necessary for their safety, we also do not leave them tethered or chained unattended or left in environments that are too hot or too cold. We provide as much love, freedom, attention, play, food/treats, training, and fun as we possibly can to help rehabilitate them so they can be happy dogs ready for their forever family and homes.
- to use as an aggressive guard dog
- to have it live outside
- to be left chained/tied/kenneled outside, alone, and unattended for extended periods of time
- to use for breeding
- to use crates as punishment
- to crate for extended periods of time or unnecessary reasons
We do not crate our rescues unless absolutely necessary, they live together peacefully in two homey locations. We would never want or condone one of our dogs going from never being crated to being crated all day, every day while you are at work, especially without breaks, access to water, controlled climate and temperature.
- simply for your young child only or to entertain your young child
We need to confirm your child knows how to treat a dog gently, with respect and kindness. Too often we hear about children hurting dogs and when the dogs react out of instinct, the dogs are the ones that get punished. We will not have that happening to any of our rescues.
We do not approve of a "just pick one" type of attitude when adopting one of our rescues. They need to be adopted as a new member of your family and because you feel a connection with the dog
- simply to entertain your existing dog
We love when our rescues are adopted into a family where they will have a fur-sibling/s, since typically they are accustomed to being with many other dogs at the rescue and 9 out 10 really enjoy playing with each other and snuggling into the dog pile for naps. If you think a new dog will occupy your existing dog while you are away that most likely won't be the case. While they can keep each other company when you're away they will still want that human attention as much as possible. Typically, they will both just sleep while you are away, they will not play all day and get their energy out as you may think or hope.
- We do appreciate (sometimes it's necessary) having a second visit where your dog can meet the rescue dog prior to finalizing adoption
